Presidents Report

Hello from Bristow, Oklahoma.
I hope this letter finds everyone doing well in all this spring weather. As I write this report, I am catching up on all of my paperwork for the NTA, FTO and other various activities. But more important, I am looking forward to some fishing and Turkey season which is around the corner here in Oklahoma.

On March 10, 2018 we had our annual Fur Auction at the Okmulgee County Fairgrounds. Unfortunately, we did not get to see everyone we wanted to as far as sellers and buyers. Prices being down on furs and a winter with strange weather patterns stopped a lot of folks from getting out trapping this year. However, we did still have some showing at the fur auction such as a $170 top bobcat and $60 for 26 ounces of green beaver castor. Hopefully, prices will improve this year. But who really knows for sure? As I tend to tell everyone who asks me about prices … “It’s literally ALL speculation until an offer is made and accepted.” Be that as it may however, doesn’t stop me from carrying on a heritage and tradition. And I had the HONOR of introducing a Disabled American Veteran, Mr. Jody Johnson, to the trapping world and I believe he has the bug now, ESPECIALLY since he had the top otter at the fur auction at $41 whole unskinned, which isn’t bad considering most were $20 or less.

Our next meeting will be the Fall meeting and it’s an election year, so you need to decide who you want to nominate for executive offices and director positions. You can also nominate yourself if you wish to do so. Before nominating someone, please ask them to make sure they will accept.

I would like to thank the following people for their assistance in making this past fur auction a success and please forgive me if I forget and leave your name out:

• Jerrod Davis (ODWC Fur Bearer Biologist) and crew for tagging Cats / Otter for us
• Mrs. Wanda who will now be our Concessionaire when available. The food was great.
• Okie Cable & Trap Supply Crew for vending
• ALL Of the Buyers and Sellers in attendance

I would like to both thank and congratulate Mr. Pete Rogers, the FTOs newest Lifetime Member.

NOTE: Please contact us and let us know if you have had a change of mailing or email address so that we can get that information updated and you do not miss your subscription. In closing … remember to take a kid or two out hunting, fishing or trapping with you when you go … the activity could literally have a positive effect on their lives and how they grow up. Please remember there is benefit in joining the NTA, but if you don’t join the NTA … then join another non-profit wildlife conservation organization. Make your voice heard. Please be safe, God Bless you all and take care.
